Performance Cusine Maurice Ravel: Genius of "la Belle Epoque"
Performances and Luncheon
Ambassador Pierre Vimont welcomes participants to his beautiful embassy to learn about and experience the musical genius of Ravel. Led by concert pianist, author, and music lecturer Cecilia Dunoyer, the day's lectures are highlighted by numerous live performances along with recordings that delineate the composer's virtuosity. Participants enjoy a luncheon of French specialties.

Family Performance Meet the Museum: Kodomono-Hi: Children's Day
Discovery Theater Performance
(for ages 6-10) Celebrate Japanese Children's Day and the promise of youth with a performance by the Kodomo Dance Theater -- a troupe of talented young dancers in traditional kimono dress led by Shizumi Shigeto Manale (director/choreographer). Each child in the audience receives a hand-made origami crane from one of the dancers. After the performance, visit the galleries to examine intricate images of Japanese art; docent facilitators are on hand and gallery guides are provided. Celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

Lecture My Dear President
Author Talk, with book signing and tour
Share unguarded first family moments with Dr. Gerard Gawalt (Library of Congress curator of the papers of presidential families). After the talk, he signs copies of his book My Dear President: Letters Between Presidents and Their Wives. Then Daniel Piazza (assistant curator) leads a tour of the Black Harding Stamp Collection -- stamps issued after the death of President Warren G. Harding -- on view in the Philatelic Gallery.

Demonstration Art + Coffee: David Beck's Movie Palace or Museum
Luce Foundation Center Activity
Peek into one of David Beck's sculptures: Movie Palace features characters in action -- eating popcorn, smooching, and watching King Kong on the big screen. Museum was commissioned by the museum and reflects -- in exquisite miniature -- the neoclassical architecture of the building, from the 1840s when it was the U.S. Patent Office to the present day. Afterwards, enjoy a complimentary coffee or tea.

Cusine Performance Smithsonian Jazz Cafe: The Kenny Rittenhouse Quintet
Friday Evening Music & Dining Event
As part of this ongoing Friday evening event, the museum offers music by Washington's top jazz musicians and an a la carte dinner. This evening, The Kenny Rittenhouse Quintet performs. Rittenhouse (trumpet) is a dazzling instrumentalist and dynamic composer of straight-ahead jazz.

Korean Film Festival DC 2008
(1962, 110 min., directed by Lee Man-hee, Korean with English subtitles) Lee had the full assistance of the Korean army while he was filming the harrowing battle scenes, but his ability to convey intimate moments of camaraderie and friendship is what elevates this Korean War film above the average war movie.

Founded in 1980 by artistic director Rosalie Jones (Pembina Chippewa), the Daystar Dance Company was the first dance company in the U.S. created with only Native performers and specializing in the portrayal of stories of Indian America. This evening, she presents her latest production of No Home But the Heart.
